The PrintBox

The zrsPOS PrintBox is the small box that connects the shop's receipt printer to zrsPOS — by USB, by network cable or by Wi-Fi — with no computer involved and no ports opened on the shop router. It is set up from a phone in five steps and then prints by itself: every POS sale comes out on the right printer seconds later.

What is in the box

The PrintBox, its power cable (micro-USB; any phone charger will do) and a network cable. The serial number is on the box's sticker and on the first page of the setup.

First time

  1. Plug the PrintBox into power. Wait a minute until the light is steady.
  2. On a phone or laptop, join the Wi-Fi network zrsPOS PrintBox- followed by the serial number (for example zrsPOS PrintBox-8F80F7). The password is on the label under the PrintBox.
  3. Open http://192.168.8.1. The PrintBox setup appears — in Portuguese, with an EN button in the corner.
  4. Follow the five steps:
    • Box password — protects this page. Keep it.
    • Internet — a network cable from the shop router to the WAN port, or the shop Wi-Fi (the box lists the networks it sees; pick yours and type the password), or a phone hotspot for fairs. The box confirms when it reaches zrsPOS.
    • Printer — connect it by USB or to the box's LAN port; it shows up in the list by itself. Press Print a test line to confirm paper comes out.
    • Shop — in zrsPOS (Shopify admin) go to Setup guide → 7. Printers → Add printer, choose Print app on the POS device (SUNMI…) or the PrintBox and press Next, choose the store, name the printer (say "Counter 1") and press Generate the pairing code. Type the shop and the six-digit code into the PrintBox. Done: the printer appears in zrsPOS under that name.
    • Ready — the status page: internet, shop, printers, box version. Print the sticker and put it on the box.
  5. In Shopify POS, on the zrsPOS tile, choose This device's printer → the new printer. From here every sale prints.

Day to day

You never need to touch the box. To look at it, open http://192.168.8.1 from the shop network or the box's own network and enter the box password. There you can:

  • Test print — a test receipt from zrsPOS.
  • Scan for printers — after connecting a new printer.
  • Change Wi-Fi — a new router, or a fair on the phone's hotspot. The box remembers earlier networks.
  • Change shop — disconnects the box from the current shop; pair with another using a new code.
  • Reboot, Update the box, Diagnostics (a text to send to support) and Sticker.

An Advanced router settings link opens the router's full panel for those who need it (VPN, several connections, and so on). None of it is needed for any of the above.

If the box is factory reset

Holding the reset button for ten seconds wipes the configuration — the box returns to step one, exactly as it came. zrsPOS is still inside. Repeat the five steps with a new code; five minutes.

Frequently asked

The printer does not appear in step 3. Is it on, with paper? USB cable in on the box side and the printer side? On an Epson with a Wi-Fi dongle, remove the dongle — with it in, the printer's network port is disabled. Press Scan again.

The box cannot find the shop Wi-Fi. The PrintBox uses 2.4 GHz networks only. If yours is 5 GHz only, enable the 2.4 GHz one on the router or use the cable. On an iPhone hotspot, turn on "Maximise compatibility".

"On the network, but no internet". The box is on the Wi-Fi but the shop router has no internet. Check the router.

"Invalid or expired code". A code lasts ten minutes. Generate another in zrsPOS.

Printer "offline" on the status page. The box stopped seeing it: cable, power, or the printer changed address. Scan for printers fixes the last two.
